Hi,
I made my own fantasy dungeon crawler hack. In it, you’ll find inspirations from Cairn, Knave, Mausritter, B,D,P, Nimble, Whitehack, and others.
Some key elements that might feel fresh:
- The inventory is a little bit toyetic - think Tetris, but I don’t go crazy with it.
- The combat rules are written for Zone based combat - I find that Zones make representing more abstract battlefields a lot easier. I also find it speeds up prep for sessions.
- A single To Hit/Damage roll with Evasion and Armor as defensive layers - Other odd-like games keep the math very flat. There’s a little more numeric growth in Glint. Armor can go up to like 15, which would create a bit of a puzzle for the players.
- Conversational Magic with handrails - Games with word-based Magic sometimes end up too flexible. I try to find a happy medium with some ‘laws of magic’ that should limit headaches for the GM.
You won’t like the game if:
- Character ‘Builds’ are anathema to you - the game is classless, but the weapons and feats can synergize to make characters more effective. If you don’t want to think about that at all, you might not enjoy the game as much.
- You like a heavier exploration procedure - Those are stripped down about as low as they’ll go in Glint.
- You’re expecting more polish - This game doesn’t have an attached setting or campaign. My diy skills lag behind the professional products of Dolmenwood or Mythic Bastionland.
