wow, that is indeed really useful, especially as it provides the links to the source material! I mean that is really a VAST improvement to say chatgpt as it allows you to backtrack and explore that material from that angle. great! will certainly play around with that.
INDEED, its created for academic research, very different from chatgpt. it will pull from your linked sources, and only just vaguely use a generalized LLM to stitch together what it finds (or if you ask it directly). you can use it like a more chaotic and creative Obsidian.
I am kind of a broken record about notebook LM. there is a lot of fear about AI that is holding people back from its usefulness (and its less damaging to the environment than say, printing out a bunch of stuff for a binder. basically equivalent to playing elden ring for a minute).
I really wasn’t aware of it! I am in academia, will throw some papers at it and see what I can do with it!
I’ve not explored DEVONthink so I can’t speak to its other benefits but you can link to specific PDF pages in Obsidian (if the PDF is in your vault). Ex:
[[RPG.pdf#page=27]]
or to preview the page:
![[RPG.pdf#page=27]]
I’ve used this in combination with the Leaflet plugin to “key” maps so that my pins will preview the page from the module/adventure PDF.
Oh wow that is super promising. So if I throw a pdf into a canvas I can kinda have a nice marked up adventure with my notes and links ready right?
For the most part, yes. There’s a button to Save current position in document
when adding a PDF to a canvas so you can essentially bookmark specific pages to always load first. Here’s an example showing the same document but with two different pages “bookmarked” and a card for session notes (containing links to other relevant resources).
