A little overview of Discord Servers, their Userbase and Growth

I’ve been keeping track of several OSR discord servers userbases over time to get a rough idea about game popularity. Take this with a grain of salt, as some games communities do not prioritise discord as their social hub (e.g. Basic Fantasy). I just find these numbers interesting! The Growth column is the growth since the last value was taken. I find it particularly interesting how huge the Foundry VTT discord is, it gives you an idea just how popular the VTT is. Lots of things to discover in the data, what do you think?

I feel like the foundry numbers also speak to how complex it is. There’s a lot that you need to ask questions about.

My group (before with swapped to just a shared whiteboard app) used the original owlbear rodeo, and there wasn’t anything to even bother asking about.

Yeah I agree. Foundry needs a dedicated support system, whereas owlbear just works. Also my platform of choice for many reasons. As I said the numbers are imperfect for many reasons, the growth rates kind of hint at which games are generating a lot of interest (eg Daggerheart) at the moment and for which games the often initial burst of interest has begun to slow down (eg mork Borg)
