Anyone got any non-RPG settings they want to run an RPG in? What are some of the challenges of getting them to the table (beyond scheduling)?
A lot of my early design was geared towards bringing the IPs I loved to the table, and I was (and continue to be) routinely disappointed with exhisting adaptations that put system over theme; to say: they go for something that is predominant in the TTRPG mainstream even if thematically it doesn’t fit the IP at all.
For instance, too many adaptations have a turn-based, grind-away-at-HP tactical combat even if what they’re adapting has absolutely no relation to that, just because the designers thought every RPG needs to have that (either as a fundamental principle or to be able to make sales). There are very few that bother with building a bespoke system especially tailored for the IP, or even sufficiently tweaking an exhisting one to make it compatible to the vibes.
