I’ve made both of the InDesign files from the Cairn 2e boxes set publicly available for anyone who wants to use them. The layout and text are both released as CC-BY-SA 4.0.

Wow this is very kind. Thanks @yochaigal and @AdamHensley - always fun to see how the layout sausage is made
Thanks! If I had thought at the beginning we’d be sharing out the source file, I’d have been better about organization, haha. We moved at a pretty fast pace and I didn’t always have time to set things up in a way that makes for a better public template. So some aspects of the layout are a little janky, but you live and you learn!
You should be much kinder to yourself, the point of the file is to make the book and you did that and it looks great
As a fellow designer I’m not sure I’d trust a file without some jank to be honest
Appreciate that! (A little jank is probably good luck)
Your file hygiene is really good! Better than most templates, frankly. I was surprised how clean and orderly the files were when I downloaded them the other day.
Thank you for working with Yochai to make them available. I’ve been playing with the layout the past two days.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me as I really respect the work you’ve done for the Explorer Template and just your posts on page layout and design in general!
It’s one of those things where you learn some lessons moving forward for the next project. Usually it’s things to make my life easier when I need to make big changes down the road, or for when making the file public for others to easily use. There’s always places to improve! I used to do page layout when I first graduated, but have since been 100% digital/UX/UI the last 6-7 years, so my layout skills need to be dusted off every now and again.
