Searching for inspiration materials I came back around to The Dark Crystal. Wonderful little world, and there’s even a nice RPG (a YT review by Agranak).
I’m thinking of making some scenarios in Thra (the game world) and wondered if, and how, I can share them. I know they can’t be for sold. What kind of notice should I include? Can I point to the RPG book as source material (meaning one would need the book)?
Any and all thoughts are welcome!
I am literally no help here, but came to say that I actually really liked the Netflix show, and was sad it was cancelled. Being a fan of everything Meta, I loved the bit where they puppets put on a puppet show.
Anyway, good luck! My personal, non attorney position is that you should make the scenarios and just give them to friends/people you run into on the internet etc. I wouldn’t post on drive thru or itch, but here would be fine. Just private sharing like any fan fic/remix.
That’s exactly what my non-lawyer self thinks too. 
I’d forgotten about the series, until a week or so ago. Like, I’d seen the promo stuff and lost track. I’m watching it now.
It’s great to see they chose live action puppets. The aesthetic is emblematic, anything else would feel out of place.
It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission (or, I guess in this day and age, it’s easier to wait for a DMCA notice than ask for permission).
Just don’t be like “OMG GUYS LOOK IT’S MY OFFICIAL DARK CRYSTAL RPG” and I doubt anyone will even notice.

Depending on details, you might even be able to sell your work. You’ll probably want to be aware of what’s copyrighted and what’s trademarked and how that might impact your work.
But I think, “It’s free, clearly says it’s fan-fic, and not notorious” seems to be the usual approach. The Dark Crystal folks don’t seem particularly against fanfic based on the amount of fanfic still up.
Oh thank you! I didn’t even think to look for fanfic, it’s like too obvious. 
now I’ve got even more to feed my recently acquired obsession.
