I wrote up some procedures for handling hexcrawls in Cairn. I’m still adding examples to it.

These directions assume a pointy-top hex design.
I think you meant flat-top, considering N and S directions in the table above.

The directions on the table above are for the flat-top ones though (i.e. there are no North and South neighboring hexes for a pointy-top hex)?
I’ve updated my hexcrawl rules. Nothing has changed, except for how it is presented. Previously I described travel as “Watches per hex” but I’ve switched it around to “Hexes per Watch” which I think makes a lot more sense.
Difficulty
| Difficulty | Travel per Watch | Lost? | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | Cross 2 hexes | None | Open terrain, roads, clear landmarks |
| Tough | Cross 1 hex | 2-in-6 | Forests, hills, rough trails |
| Perilous | Cross 1/2 hex | 3-in-6 | Trackless swamps, mountains, dense jungle |
