Hello! I’m John Erwin, system-hopping DIY RPG enthusiast, which is a lot of words to say I read and hack games from all over. I’m a fan of NSR stuff, and have made small games and rpg supplements in the similar vein (here’s my itch).

I’ve been viewing this forum/boards since 2022 actually, but I just realized I didn’t have an account. So now I’m fixing that.

Hi! I am Cassidy. I am newish to ttrpgs, and I am still learning my likes, dislikes, strengths, and weaknesses. Currently I’ve been enjoying the Carved from Brindlewood family of games as well as a game called Broken Tales.

Hello all, I’m gyakusetsu and I love roleplaying games, be they live action, parlor, campfire, or tabletop.

I’m working on a card-based post-apocalyptic science-fantasy game. My design challenges include making it both portable with role/character cards & a standard deck AND complex enough to scratch players’ desire to fiddle with options and choices.

I’ve never heard of Broken Tales. What’s it’s concept and why does it draw you?

Hey! I’m Daniel!
I’m a hobby enthusiast from Oslo, Norway who recently leapt into becoming a full-time “illustrator”. I’ve been playing roleplaying games for most of my 33 years on this earth but just recently took the leap into the OSR after playing a bunch of Mörk Borg.
And after spending much of my life doing “music stuff”, the DIY ethos of the indie RPG inspired me to start releasing my stuff.

I have a far overdue Mörk Borg adventure coming out on EF …at some point in the near future.
I’ve also just released a revised edition of my entry to the knave 2e adventure jam.

I’m always open for extremely opinionated RPG theory/philosophy discussions and do art comissions for a living, allthough i’m pretty new at it.

I also run games. Many, many games.

Hello from Kentucky. I’m Nathan. Kind of played Mentzer DnD in the early 90’s, then started playing 5E during the You Know What in 2020. While looking for info for my monk I stumbled upon Goblin Punch and that resulted in a freefall down the rabbit hole that is RPG blogs, OSR, NSR, etc., etc.

Still playing 5E, as my attempt at running a mostly-Black-Sword-Hack game for my friends fizzled out. I’m hoping to start a Cairn game with some family in the New Year.

Hello, I’m Zach! I’ve been a passive rpg enjoyer for several years, mostly running the odd one-shot for friends/family. I’m trying to get myself more active in the community and am excited to be starting my first long-term in-person game in January (I’m running Stonehell). I occasionally run games on a few discords for the community, make stuff for Cairn on itch.io and run a little blog reviewing modules I have run for different systems as well as other ramblings. Currently working on a post-disaster urban crawl megadungeon situation for Cairn!

Hello! I’m Abrahm! I’ve loved RPGs since college and my first D&D 3.0 campaign. Since then I’ve been asking questions, learning about the hobby, reading/trying out new games and dabbling in creating my own stuff.

I love the DIY nature of the NSR and the focus on play experiences through modules. I miss forums and hope to participate more here!

By way of Desert Moon of Karth, I discovered Mothership, which led me to a thriving community of game writers, publishing my own games, loads of great podcasts, and all that fun stuff, :grin:

Hi, I’m Matt. I’ve played TTRPGs forever, and I have a weekly Tuesday/online gaming group I’m very thankful for. I found this space through some link-following as I was reading RPG posts/blogs this weekend. Since a lot of the online RPG discussion space has moved to Discord, I feel like I’m missing out on cool people/ideas – Discord is great, but it winds up feeling like one super long megathread to me, and I get intimidated/can’t keep up; I’m hoping this will be a space to read/think/share RPG ideas.

I’m a writer & a teacher by trade and I like to play different games; right now my weekly group is playing OSE by the book to see what we like about the rules/system, and what we want to bring to our regular campaign.

Kia ora rā! (Greetings!) I’m James. I live in the rohe (home area) of Te Kawerau a Maki in Aotearoa New Zealand, where I earn a living by thinking about tech policy, and play, plan, and read about diy elfgames to avoid thinking about tech policy.

I came to this hobby through actual plays and very informal 5e group at my previous job, and then went down a rabbit hole of systems before landing on Into the Odd-likes as my generally preferred style of game. I’ve been running a Mausritter campaign for about a year, and buying an embarrasing number of pdfs :sweat_smile:

Hey everyone, I’m Clayton. I’m a writer who likes to share critique and things I’ve learned about design from watching and collaborating with other designers. My website is Explorers Design.

I’m a design writer during the day who lives and works out of Portland, Maine. I have an autism-backed love for trains and systems, light PTSD from a life in advertising agencies, and a love for coffee that resembles Formula 1 racing. Crashes included.

Basic overview is that the characters are twisted versions of fairytale characters (usually the villains). The game takes place in the late 18th century in a “broken” Europe where fairytales are real but have been messed with. The characters are a special group that acts on behalf of the Pope to resolve situations/solve mysteries. These situations are twisted versions of fairytales. I am a fairytale/folklore junkie.

It’s dark fantasy, maybe bordering on horror. I love the art first of all. It’s all the work of one artist, and I find that I tend to enjoy when a book is all one artist (or at least very consistent art direction).

It’s a very narrative focused game which I enjoy. It’s played primarily with pregenerated characters, and the all have very potent abilities. Like, the headless horseman character has this demon horse that can overcome all obstacles to get to him. Or the pied piper can play a melody that can enchant animals or impart an emotion onto everyone present. I like that the characters are powerful in unique ways, and I love seeing players use the tools available in super awesome ways.

My last plug is the fact that the dice mechanics allow for a lot of player agency. Without getting too into it, I feel like players have a lot of choice in how risky checks are. They can outright succeed without any dice if they choose, but that uses up a lot of resources. That’s something I also think I like in games (kind of like how crowns in Brindlewood Bay let the player have more choice on a given die roll). Anwyay, in my limited experience I’ve really enjoyed the system.
