How small is too small of a group for you to play a tabletop RPG? How big is too big? Does it change depending on venue and environment? Are there certain systems you’ll only play with certain numbers of players?
Inspired by the Hank Green video where he says Your D&D Group Is Too Big, I wrote a blog about how I capacity plan my tabletop RPG groups:
From the time I stopped worrying about the schedule management of picking the right day for all the players to be available, it’s been a breeze. Just pick a day and run the session weekly. Those who can attend will be playing today. Don’t end the session in the dungeon so the party can restructure the next week if the player composition changes. If you are particularly short on players one day, let them play two characters at once.
funny, my in person group has been dealing with the SUMMER SCHEDULE CONFLICTS and have been skipping far too many sessions. read this with interest!
realizing that in our situation, we probably need 1-2 more players. 5 person group and officially 3 is quorum, but there is one couple in there. funny how often the “problem” will seem to be the game, but the actual problem might just be logistical.
