Looking for advice on running Stonehell

I’m planning on running Stonehell in OSE in the near future. I don’t want to worry about which players can show up every time we play, so I’m planning on either start-in-town-end-in-town or quantum party. Which do you prefer?

I also quite dislike infravision/darkvision. How much stuff in Stonehell uses/interacts with the mechanics of infravision like flame chalk? Any advice there, or should I just suck it up and keep infravision?

Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’m two sessions into running Stonehell with similar concerns about flexible groups. I set the dungeon half a days travel from the Basic Fantasy module Morgansfort with the intention of having players return there between sessions.

The party ended the first session wanting to camp near the dungeon entrance and I would have felt weird forcing them to go back to town. The second session was the same group and this time they did end in town.

Going forward I’ll try for a balanced approach. If they make it back on their own they get to do downtime activities. Otherwise, the next session starts either right where they left off (with new players handwaved in) or in town (if there are more new than returning players).

I’m using the Shadowdark system which purposely excludes infravision and permanent light spells. I decided that anyone in possession of a piece of flame chalk can see anything written in flame chalk. Aside from that I think infravision only shows up on a couple magic items and monsters. I’ve had to make some larger changes to accomidate for continual light but if you’re not worried about that then you should be good to go.
