Songs that Inspire

Hi all, I’ve been listening to Flemish folk sons recently and felt them fit quite well with how I’m currently running Keep on the Borderland with Mazerats. Anyway, I wanted to share one of the songs and have translated it for you. It fits with the kind of despair many grim and gritty OSR/NSR fantasy games have and I think you might enjoy. But to just make a post for that seems weird, so wondered if other people wanted to share songs/playlists that inspire their games as well.

The Traveller
"Please, citizen, let me in, I have no coin nor harbor.
My wife and children are dead, I have buried them myself.

I see the towers of the city, they rise in the east.
I wish I had friends there that could comfort me.
I’ve been traveling for fourteen years, please give me shelter.
A piece of bread, a cup of wine, I don’t care what.

Please, citizen, let me in, I have no coin nor harbor.
My wife and children are dead, I have buried them myself.

My whole life I’ve been running through forest, field and grasslands.
I hunt with the wolves and sleep at mother bear’s side.
This searching takes too much time, please deliver me
So come and stab me to death my friend, bury me in the forests.

Please, citizen, let me in, I have no coin nor harbor.
My wife and children are dead, I have buried them myself.

I don’t know much, yes that is true, but I know what’s coming.
I saw fire in the city, in the churches and the houses.
The devil burned everything down, with man and mice

Please, citizen, let me in, I have no coin nor harbor.
My wife and children are dead, I have buried them myself.

I saw destruction and violence, I saw the ground shake.
I have now told you about this, please give me a coin."
