Valdus's Projects Page

I have been into rpg’s since the 1980’s. I started out in good ol’ 1981 Redbox. Years later tried to pick up at 3.0 and it just wasn’t the same. Precious hard-cover coffee table books replaced my dearest softcover wiggly pamphlet of a rules book.

So I switched to OSR. Being older (yeah, I know, you did the maths) I turned to rules-light with heavy imagination. My favorites? Risus and FUDGE (that other therapy-like evil hat thing though). As of late, like many, I have gotten into RPG’s. But my perspective is different. I play solo rpg’s fast and inspired to fuel my fiction writing. Anything that gets in the way of the writing, I tend to ignore.

So for some odd reason (mid-life crisis?) I have since decided or would like to design my own, fusing everything I always wanted. Just like they say in the books.

I am familiar with many if not most independent RPG’s. So I’m ready- one problem.

I am absolutely horrid at thinking up game mechanics, the maths never ever work.

Nonetheless, here are the project I am working on.

  • a hack of Tam H’s The Local Helm, expanding it to play a band of adventurers or a mercenary company.
  • Oracle Fudge: A hack and slash of the Fudge system, bringing it toward rolling not only for success or failure, but also rolling to create a good story, to inspire.

I hope to post my proto-muse here for the criticism, advice and amusement of others.

Damn Maths!
